It's been a while

Hello loyal readers!

Sorry it's taken me far, far too long to update this stuff. Last Friday, we played at the Rock and Roll Hotel, one of DC's premier venues for local music. And not to toot my own horn, we kicked some ass. It was a hell of a fun time, and the audience got into it. From the stage, there was definitely a back-and-forth energy flow-and-grow kind of thing. This is starting to sound a little more sexual than I intended...

Anyway, we have a lot of fun stuff coming up. We're working on a demo/sampler so our fans have something to listen to and spread around, we have some cool shows coming up in May (check our MySpace or previous blog posts for more details) and we'll have some sweet new photos soon! Finally, those of you who haven't seen us live get to meet Patches... or see what he looks like.

Also, we have posters based on our Obama "Hope" tribute graphic. If you'd like one, shoot us an e-mail and we'll work something out. The preferred minimum donation (like those Lions mints you used to be able to get at banks) is $1.

News Report, 2/21

Hey there, loyal fans!

We have some good news, some bad news, and some effing amazing news, soooooo here goes.

Good News: The show at the Red and the Black on Thursday was a lot of fun.  The energy was in the room (might it have been due to the mugginess and high temperatures?), Nary the Flounder was awesome, Born Empty got shit GOING -- if you haven't seen them yet, go check them out, and we closed the night.

Thank you everybody for coming out and supporting us, we love to play for you, we hope you love to hear us play!

Special thanks to Born Empty for lending Ian a guitar when his string broke and wrecked his tuning, as well as sharing a speaker cab with him.

Bad News: We've had some shows cancelled.  Our gig at Heaven and Hell in DC's famous Adams Morgan neighborhood has been dropped.  Not a big deal, but just FYI.  And our all-ages show at Comet Ping Pong in Tenleytown has been indefinitely postponed -- don't worry, they do want us to play, but some sort of booking SNAFU means we won't be there on Friday, March 13th. We're currently working on re-booking the show.

Super-Awesome News: We've been invited to play at Asylum in Adams Morgan May 1st with the Blue Line. It's going to be a rad show, and it's a great bar, so come check us out.

The REALLY Big News is that we'll be playing the Rock'n'Roll Hotel March 20!  We like to think we're big DC rock stars as a result, but we're still newbies... Anyway, come out and see us, it's an all-ages show, so you can bring your little brother or sister and all of their friends, too!  It's a $10 cover, and there are four bands playing - yours truly, Dangerosa, Finver Four and Sweet Interference.

New Music

Also, just a little FYI to toss at you, Ian officially started work today on our new sampler CD. This will be a precursor to bigger and better things, but it also means in a few weeks you'll be able to illegally download and share some of our songs using the internets.
Well, OK, maybe not illegally, since we're fine with you sharing our music with your friends. If we wanted it all to ourselves, well that would just be stupid.

WOW, what a weekend

Dear Everyone Who Came Out to the Red and the Black For Our Show Last Night,

You guys kick ass. We had an awesome time, and we enjoyed your company oh, so greatly. We'd love to do it again with you ... that came out wrong.
Oh wait, we can have a ripping time at the Red and the Black soon! We'll be playing there February 19th with Nary the Flounder and Born Empty. I think it'll be pretty tits; if you can make it, we'd all be stoked.
We'll also be playing at Comet Ping Pong in NWDC in March, on Friday the 13th (ooooooo spooky) with Verse the Tempest and The Blue Line. The Blue Line are sick, Verse the Tempest puts on one heck of a show, and you love us, so, duh. This one's an all-ages show, so you can bring ANYONE you like! It'll be sweet, and they have bitchin' pizzas there.
So, thank you guys again for coming out to see us last night. You're the reason we're successful -- yeah, maybe we work hard to write fun songs for you to hear, but it's you guys who hear us and bring your friends into the flock of fans that make our shows fun and exciting. Our hats are off to you.
So spread the word, let people know how much fun it is to hang out with DeVille for a night and listen to music like they've never heard. The more the merrier, right?

Poster, TAPS

Here's a poster for our upcoming shows, based on Shepard Fairey's famous Obama posters.  Spread it around, get viral with it!  Support local soul rock!

Also, we're proud to announce that we'll be playing at the TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) 15th Annual National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp at the Gaylord National Hotel just outside of Washington, D.C.

TAPS does a lot to help the widows/widowers and children of fallen service members, and we are proud to be a part of what they do for military families.

News: Jan 21 2009

We have a new President, new gigs and it's a new year. So here's what's up with DeVille!

We have a band house now, similar to the Real World: Brooklyn except we're not a bunch of fame-hungry a-holes with little/no talent or redeeming value as humans. Hot damn, that was harsh. Good way to start a Wednesday!

We all attended Inauguration yesterday, which was amazing. Check out Ian and Eleena's personal blogs for first-person accounts.

Ms. Gordon started a new job, which makes life MUCH easier on us. Rent money is bueno. She seems to really like her job, and she's a recruiter, so maybe she can get Ian and Eleena out of their crappy jobs now that Inauguration 2009 is over. She's writing songs like crazy, so much that Ian's struggling to keep up with all of her new lyrics. Apparently on the National Mall, a People magazine photographer had an impromptu photo shoot with her. If we get to name-drop ourselves in People...holy shit that'd be wicked tight.

Trevor is recovering from eye surgery. Last I heard, his bubble was down to the size of a pea. As of today he's back to work, which is great -- like I said before, rent money is BUENO.

Patches was sick for a bit, but now he's recovering, and won't miss practice. Hooray! Patches has made amazing headway into our set, learning/developing/writing his own parts through the full set in only a few weeks. And now we're making him learn new songs. What dicks we are. We're really looking forward to having Patches at shows, so we can fully flex our rock'n'roll muscle.

Ian spent yesterday on the Inaugural parade route, trying to squeeze a story from arguably one of the least interesting areas to be in during the ceremony. But some bangin' photos came out of it, so, whatever. Ian will be taking part in the Future of Music Coalition's DC Policy Day, a forum where the music industry's "middle class" (those of us that are trying to make music a career but aren't rich and famous) can discuss emerging technologies, the state of the music industry and the future of music in terms of government policy, artists' rights, etc. with industry and government leaders.

Oh God!

Well it's been far far far too long since I've posted anything here.  So here's the news.  I'll put up some fresh photos later tonight, if time allows.

-- We've moved into a house in dirty D.C.!  Well, Gabby and Trevor and Eleena (our photographer) have moved in.  Ian will be moving in as soon as he's not a broke-ass fool living in his mom's house.  We had Thanksgiving there with a bunch of friends and family.  Good times for all!

-- We have a bass player!  Everybody make Patches Mitchell feel at home.  Just because he's a pescetarian doesn't mean he isn't awesome.  You should see the bass he plays.  Whooooo billy it's tits!

-- You may have seen us featured on Connect2Mason.com's "Talks with Tier."  Thanks a million to Tier and Natalia and Co. for having us on your show, it was too fun.  Check us out by clicking here!  Featured on the show are two of our previously unrecorded songs, "City Girl" and "Screaming" (should be posted soon).

-- Ian just farted and it kind of stinks.

-- Trevor had an old injury come back to haunt him.  A while back, he got hit in the eye with a paintball.  After lots of rocking and rolling, he managed to detach his retina.  He's had surgery, but he's stuck with an eyepatch and bandages for now.  Too bad our bass player came pre-equipped with the nickname "Patches," it makes it a lot harder to come up with nicknames for Trevor.  (In an amusing coincidence, Patches also hurt his eye and had a patch on for a while.  So our rhythm section was functioning with two good eyes and two great eye patches.)

-- We want to play YOUR parties.  Shoot an e-mail our way if you're hosting a holiday bash, we'll give it the punch it needs... whether its the kind of punch we slipped a handle of vodka into or the kind of punch that makes your nose bleed.

Rocktoberfest 2008

Hey!  Yeah, you!  Guess what?

DeVille is headlining this year's Rocktoberfest!

It's going to be at The Barking Dog, on Elm Street (just off Wisconsin, 2 blocks from the Bethesda metro station) in Bethesda, MD.  The doors will open at 8 p.m., tickets are $8 apiece.

Also performing are Alexis George, Temporary Basement and Manises.  It's sure to be a ass-kicking, rocking and rolling good time for all!

The Red and The Black! part one

We survived our official D.C. debut performance, and came out with some pretty sweet shots. Thanks a ton to our band photographer, Eleena Fikhman. So without further ado, here's some pictures:

News, 8-12-08

All righty!

It's been a while, so here's what's new from everybody's favorite new DC rock'n'rollers, DeVille!

- Trevor's new nickname is Peter Pan (see the hands on the hips?). Ian is a Lost Boy with a nosy, Gossip Girl-esque camera phone. Peter's Wendy will remain anonymous for her protection.

- The Dark Knight is awesome, say we three.

- We have quite a few songs in the works, so when you see us at the Red and the Black in a few weeks, you'll be like, "Whoa, where did all of this new stuff come from?"

- Oh, did we mention? We'll be playing a show on August 27 with The Blue Line at the Red and the Black in downtown DC! Email us for more info.

Behind the Scenes - Alvin Ailey Showcase

After a long drive and a late night at Gabby's house, we literally saw the light at the end of the tunnel. On the other side? Manhattan!







Gabby's sister Jenel picked out her outfit, so when Gabby tried it on ... let's just say there was a wardrobe malfunction or two that led to us spending the day at the mall.










But by showtime, all was right! Gabby doesn't really wear dresses... everyone at the show was trying to figure out why.

Trevor got used to the idea of wearing stage makeup real quick when the models started talking to him.

New York, New York

So, a quick update, the show in New York went really well. I think it'll open a lot of doors for the band.

Hot Traxxx

Whoa!  It's been a whirlwind week in the studio getting demos together, but after a few marathon nights recording and a sprint across the mixing board, we have samples you can listen to!  

Our first releases are "Big Mistake" and "Same Sad Love Song."  The tracks show some of the different sides of our style -- "Big Mistake" is punk-inspired and energetic, "Same Sad Love Song" is our version of hard rock heartache.

Hello everyone!

Things are getting really exciting right now. We have our shows coming up in New York, we'll have a pair of demos for you to listen to either today or tomorrow, and now that we're done for a minute in the studio, I get to go to bed kind of early! HOORAY!

But really, we're very excited for people to hear our music -- you'll be able to hear it on our MySpace profile and on our Facebook page. we know it's tough to say you're a fan if you don't know what we sound like. And honestly, we want to know what you think we sound like. We have some serious trouble trying to compare our sound to other bands...
